Megaman Battle Network 5 Team Protoman is an RPG where players alternate between controlling a boy named Lan in the real world and his digital companion, Mega Man, in cyberspace. The narrative involves confronting a group distributing corrupting Dark Navi chips, with a key objective being to storm the Dark Chip Factory.

Gameplay is split between exploration and a hybrid battle system. Combat against viruses combines real time action, such as dodging attacks, with a turn based element where powerful chips are selected for use.
