A Greek mythology shoot 'em up where you charge sword fireballs to rescue a petrified goddess.

Phelios was originally released in arcades by Namco in 1988. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive port was released in 1990 (North America and Japan). The legacy year 1989 is incorrect for the Genesis version.

About Phelios

Phelios is a game structured into seven distinct chapters, each concluding with a boss encounter that must be cleared to advance. The narrative framework is drawn from Greek mythology, following the prince Apollo as he attempts to rescue Artemis after her capture by the demon Typhon.

Gameplay involves controlling Apollo, who attacks with a sword capable of launching fireballs. A charged attack, executed by holding and releasing the fire button, releases a more powerful projectile. Throughout the levels, collectible items enhance the character's capabilities, primarily increasing speed and offensive power.

The story progresses through intermissions shown between chapters, detailing events at Typhon's temple where Artemis is held. The central conflict is driven by her imprisonment and transformation into stone by Medusa, setting the stage for Apollo's journey aboard the winged horse Pegasus.
