About Mercs

Mercs is a horizontal shoot 'em up where the player controls an anti-terrorism operative. The mission involves rescuing a captured former President from a revolutionary group in Central Africa.

Gameplay requires navigating eight levels, primarily by moving sideways while engaging numerous enemies. The player must often destroy environmental obstacles like trees to advance. Strategic positioning is challenging, particularly when crossing bodies of water where firing is impossible.

While mostly played on foot, the character can occasionally commandeer vehicles left by defeated opponents. Collectible items provide upgrades such as better weapons, area-clearing bombs, and health restoration. Each stage concludes with a confrontation against a heavily armored vehicle that can withstand many direct hits.
