About King's Bounty

King's Bounty is a turn-based strategy game where the player's objective is to locate and retrieve the Sceptre of Order for the king. Players choose from one of four character types, each beginning with a distinct set of recruitable creatures. The kingdom is explored across four sequential maps, with each area presenting stronger enemy forces and more powerful units available for hire.

Progression is tied to capturing enemy-held castles, which grants experience levels. After accumulating enough levels, the king promotes the character, unlocking access to elite units like cavalry and knights for recruitment at the royal castle. All other creature types are found in the wilderness, with the player's current level influencing how many can be recruited at a time. Financial management is a continuous concern, as armies must be paid regularly to prevent desertion.

The game world is fully visible, allowing players to engage all enemies on the map, though conquered castles can spawn random monsters if left undefended. A key strategic element is the ability to tackle harder maps early to find powerful creatures, making previously challenging areas more manageable. Two artifacts hidden on each map combine to reveal the Sceptre's location, and finding it triggers an immediate end to the game.

When defeated in battle, the player respawns at the king's castle with minimal forces, retaining only accumulated gold. Enemy armies do not fully regenerate, only replenishing their numbers weekly. This system, combined with the need to whittle down massive end-game armies over multiple attempts, makes the overall pacing challenging. A persistent time limit, which varies by selected difficulty, adds further pressure to the search.
