Review
Also known as
3D Galaxy Force II 3D ギャラクシーフォースⅡ Galaxy Force Sega Ages: Galaxy Force II ギャラクシーフォースⅡ

A 3D rail shooter with six dangerous levels. Fly freely, navigate tunnels, and destroy an alien base using infinite cannons and missiles.

Galaxy Force II was originally released in arcades in 1988. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version was released in 1989 in Japan and North America (as Galaxy Force II), so the earliest commercial release on the Genesis is 1989.

About Galaxy Force II

Galaxy Force II presents a rail shooting experience where the player pilots a spacecraft through six distinct environments. These settings vary from serene gardens to hazardous zones of fire and ice, with objectives that include navigating confined tunnels and canyons before assaulting an alien base.

The player's ship is equipped with an unlimited cannon and a supply of guided missiles, the latter now operable with a single button command. Survival depends on managing an energy reserve that begins at 1200 units; this reserve is depleted by enemy fire or collisions with the environment. The gameplay can be described as challenging due to this persistent attrition.

This version is an enhanced iteration of its predecessor, featuring two new stages and redesigned, more expansive versions of the original levels. To offset the constant energy drain, carriers can be destroyed to release pods that provide energy replenishment and weapon enhancements.
