Dune: The Battle for Arrakis

Dune: The Battle for Arrakis is a Sega Genesis adaptation of a real-time strategy title. Players command one of three Houses, tasked by the Emperor with securing the valuable Spice Melange on the desert planet Arrakis through a sequence of military conflicts.

Victory in these battles depends on managing core strategic activities: harvesting spice, establishing a base, and producing military units to assault opponents. The interface was redesigned for the console, using a context-sensitive cursor that directs units to move or attack based on its position.

Several systems were streamlined from the original computer version. The technology progression was simplified, including standardized concrete slab sizes and a single vehicle factory type, removing certain research prerequisites for advanced units. Furthermore, the mission structure is now strictly linear, offering no choice in the order of engagements.
