Mechanized Attack

Review

Battle through stages of a tropical island, using a machine gun or Light Zapper to destroy a hidden cyborg army.

Mechanized Attack was originally released in arcades by SNK in 1989. The NES version was released in North America in 1990, so the legacy year 1989 refers to the arcade original, not the NES platform version.

About Mechanized Attack

Mechanized Attack presents a scenario in which a player assaults a tropical island defended by a cyborg army. The conflict begins over water, with initial targets including gunboats, helicopters, and a battleship.

Enemies initially appear human or even canine, but their robotic nature is exposed as their outer flesh is destroyed. The player's primary weapon is a machine gun, and the NES version supports both a standard gamepad and the Light Zapper peripheral. To mimic the arcade cabinet's machine gun replica, holding down the fire button or Zapper trigger provides automatic fire.

Progression involves multiple stages, and at certain points the player can select which path to take through the island. Ammunition for the main weapon is plentiful, especially when obtained from destroyed power-up boxes. Grenades, which are more powerful, are conversely in short supply compared to the standard bullets.
