Radar Mission

Review
Also known as
Radarmission レーダーミッション

A strategic battleship game and side-scrolling submarine shooter.

Radar Mission is a Game Boy game developed by Pax Softnica and Nintendo R&D1, published by Nintendo. It was released in Japan on October 23, 1990, and in North America in 1990. This is the original release of the game on any platform, so both release_year and original_release_year are 1990.

About Radar Mission

Radar Mission offers two distinct gameplay experiences within a single title. One mode is a direct adaptation of the Battleship board game, where players position various naval vessels and then call out grid coordinates to locate and sink the opposing fleet.

The other primary mode shifts perspective to a side-scrolling action segment. Here, the player directly controls a submarine to assault an enemy fleet, with victory achieved by either eliminating all surface ships or destroying the adversary's submarine. A strategic radar screen becomes available when diving, displaying the positions of all friendly and enemy units.

Vessels in the game possess different durability, from aircraft carriers requiring five hits to smaller cruisers needing only two. The inclusion of a fighter jet unit is noted for later stages of play.
