NFL Quarterback Club '96 for Game Boy carries the official NFL license and includes a complete season mode. Its handheld format results in a simplified on field presentation, with teams limited to seven players each.

Compared to console editions, the playbook is reduced and the series' signature QB challenge is not present. Player names are replaced by numbers, and a practice mode is absent. A password system allows progress to be saved and resumed.
