About Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal

Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal is an expansion that adds two new single-player campaigns, one for the Human Alliance and one for the Orcish Horde. The narrative continues from the base game, with the Alliance crossing into the Orc home world of Draenor to seal a dimensional rift, while the Orc leader Ner'zhul seeks magical artifacts on Azeroth to open portals to other worlds.

Gameplay introduces hero characters for each faction, which are enhanced versions of standard units with unique audio cues, but no new standard unit types were added. The expansion provides a substantial amount of new content through its campaigns and includes fifty new maps alongside a unique visual tile set for the Orcish world.

While the expansion's new assets, such as the hero units and tiles, are not integrated into the official map editor, third-party utilities can enable their use. The campaigns are structured as a series of missions, offering a challenging experience that expands the strategic options available to players within the existing game framework.
