About Suburban Commando

Suburban Commando is a DOS game from 1993 by Alternative Software, based on the 1991 film starring Hulk Hogan. The gameplay combines several distinct genres into a single experience.

Players control an intergalactic hero, a comic-style representation of Hogan, who crash-lands on Earth. The action shifts between a horizontal space shooter segment, platforming levels requiring item collection, and boss fights presented as one-on-one combat encounters. Enemies are dealt with through shooting, kicks, and jumps.

The connection to its film source material is minimal. Beyond the protagonist's likeness, no other characters from the movie appear. The game follows the film's premise loosely, focusing on the hero battling adversaries across different gameplay styles rather than recreating specific plot details.

The title screen.
First level: a space shooter. The spiky things are extras.
The second of two weapons is a sonic wave.
Second level: General suitors spaceship, heavily guarded.
To escape the ship, you've got to plant nine bombs.
Shep Ramsey in action! Kick 'em!
Level boss: Beat up the baddie.
These intro screens precede each level.
Third level: the streets of Los Angeles. Pretty accurate in its monotony.
Level boss: Looks suspiciously like the first one.
