About Spellcross: The Last Battle

Spellcross: The Last Battle is a turn-based strategy game for DOS, released in the late 1990s. It was developed by the Slovak studio Cauldron HQ. The premise involves modern military forces defending Earth from an invasion of fantasy creatures like orcs and undead, who arrive through dimensional gates.

Gameplay is divided between a strategic layer for managing resources, research, and territory, and tactical combat scenarios. In battles, each unit uses action points for movement, attacks, or holding actions for defensive reactions. The player controls a colonel named Alexander, who leads forces against an enemy seeking to awaken a titan within the planet's core.

The game was released in different regional versions. The English release featured graphical improvements, a tutorial, cheat codes, and a reduced number of difficulty settings compared to the original Czech version. Despite its design, the title achieved little commercial success and remains obscure, a fate attributed in part to limited marketing and the industry's shift toward 3D graphics at the time.
