About Ys IV: Mask of the Sun

Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is a top-down action role-playing game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It continues the story of the swordsman Adol Christin, who finds a message in a bottle that draws him to the land of Celceta to confront a new threat.

The game's combat requires precise positioning, as attacking enemies from the wrong angle will damage the player character instead. This makes the action challenging. Elemental magic is acquired not through spells, but by equipping specific swords that possess these properties.

This entry is one of two distinct titles that share the fourth chapter's narrative, serving as a sequel to Ys II and a prequel to Ys III. Its core gameplay mechanics are an evolution of the systems established in the earliest games of the series.
