Review
Also known as
Slapstick スラップスティック

Build and program robots to battle as you investigate a town threatened by mechanical monsters.

Robotrek (Slapstick) was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994 in Japan and North America; it is the original game and no earlier platform release exists.

About Robotrek

Robotrek is a role-playing game that blends fantasy with science fiction and steampunk aesthetics. The setting is the technologically advanced town of Rococo, home to a young protagonist who is the son of an inventor.

When a group called the Hackers begins causing global disruption with robotic monsters, the father departs to confront them. This leaves his son to investigate strange local occurrences, a task for which he builds a combat robot, inspired by his own aspirations to become an inventor.

Gameplay involves navigating an overhead world to interact with characters and use items. A core activity is inventing, where ideas sparked by conversations or events can be developed into new tools in the laboratory. This process extends to combining existing items and inventions to create new ones, with unwanted gear often convertible into scrap for further experimentation.

Combat utilizes a separate side-view mode where the player's robot fights monsters to gain experience. Up to three different robots can be maintained, allowing for strategic selection and customization through various discovered or invented weapons and upgrades.
