Rise of the Robots

Review
Also known as
ライズ オブ ザ ロボッツ

Control a cyborg in a versus fighting game, using punches and kicks to battle through infected robots and defeat the Supervisor Droid.

Rise of the Robots was originally released in 1994 for Amiga, DOS, and SNES; the SNES version was released in 1994, making it the earliest release for that platform and the original game year.

About Rise of the Robots

Rise of the Robots is structured as a versus fighting game set within a robotics facility. The narrative context involves a corporation's creation, the Supervisor Droid, which becomes corrupted and turns the factory's machines hostile. The player's objective is to guide the ECO32-5 Cyborg through this environment to confront the Supervisor.

Gameplay revolves around combat using a directional pad for movement and six attack buttons, simplified on the Game Gear. Players can configure match settings such as round count and time limit. The Cyborg possesses two specific special maneuvers, which can be disabled if desired.

Three primary modes are available: a sequential mission, a flexible training option, and a two-player versus mode, though the latter is not present in the Game Gear release. The artificial intelligence is designed to adapt to the player's combat approach. The presentation includes pre-rendered 3D sequences and a title theme contributed by Brian May of Queen.
