Illusion of Gaia

Review
Also known as
Gaia Gensouki Illusion of Time Soul Blazer: Illusion of Gaia ガイア幻想紀

This action-RPG features puzzle-filled dungeons and a fair challenge as you transform to unlock new powers.

Illusion of Gaia was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in Japan on November 27, 1993, and in North America on September 1, 1994. The earliest worldwide commercial release on the SNES was in 1993, so the legacy year of 1994 is incorrect for the platform's earliest release.

About Illusion of Gaia

Illusion of Gaia is an action role-playing game where the player controls a boy named Will. The setting is a fantasy interpretation of 16th-century Earth, incorporating real historical landmarks into its world.

Will possesses psychic abilities and becomes involved with Princess Kara, who seeks his help to avoid an arranged marriage. This leads them into a broader conspiracy. During the adventure, Will can transform into two distinct forms, the knight Freedan and the energy being Shadow, each with unique combat capabilities.

Progression is handled through a system where clearing areas of enemies rewards jewels that enhance the protagonist's attributes. The game lacks traditional elements like a currency system or equipment management, focusing instead on character transformation and direct stat improvement.
