Dungeon Master

Review
Also known as
Crystal Dragon ダンジョン・マスター

Lead a party through real time combat, using skills and rune based magic to survive a deadly labyrinth.

Dungeon Master was originally released in 1987 for the Atari ST. The SNES version was released in 1993 in Japan by Victor Musical Industries.

About Dungeon Master

Dungeon Master is a role playing game in which a party of four adventurers explores a subterranean labyrinth. Its first person perspective and grid based movement align it with earlier dungeon crawling titles, but it introduces several distinct mechanical departures.

Character progression is handled through a system of improvement via practice, where skills advance through repeated use rather than through accumulating experience points. Spellcasting requires the player to assemble sequences from a set of magical symbols. Interaction with the environment is direct, using a point and click method to manipulate objects.

Combat occurs in real time, requiring active targeting of enemies to initiate attacks. This creates a challenging pace compared to turn based systems, as players must manage actions continuously while navigating the dungeon.
