Control an experimental fighter in this vertical shooter, using weapon upgrades and bombs to defeat alien invaders and large bosses.

Raiden was originally released in arcades in 1990. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version, published by Micronet, was released in 1991.

About Raiden

Raiden is a vertical scrolling shooter originally from the arcade, released on the Sega Genesis under the name Raiden Trad. The player controls an experimental supersonic fighter developed to repel an alien invasion of Earth in 2090.

Gameplay involves navigating through waves of enemy craft, which are designed as unconventional takes on military vehicles. The player's arsenal includes a primary weapon that can be upgraded in two ways, alongside a choice between standard and homing missiles. For emergency situations, a limited supply of screen clearing bombs is available from the start.

Each stage culminates in a confrontation with one or more large boss vessels, marking the completion of that segment. The core loop involves managing these weapon systems to survive the challenging onslaught of enemy forces.
