Demolition Man

Review

Control a cop in a dystopian future, shooting waves of enemies across fast-paced platform and overhead levels.

The Sega Genesis version of Demolition Man was released in 1995 by Acclaim Entertainment. The original arcade game was released in 1993.

About Demolition Man

Demolition Man adapts its 1993 film source material into a video game. The narrative follows police officer John Spartan, who is cryogenically frozen after a failed operation and awakens decades later in the transformed, pacifist city of San Angeles. His mission becomes recapturing the escaped criminal Simon Phoenix, who has also been revived.

Gameplay is characterized by its fast-paced action, primarily unfolding as a platformer. Players control Spartan, confronting numerous enemies known as cryocons across levels that sometimes shift to an overhead view. Weaponry includes a standard firearm that can be temporarily upgraded, alongside an independent grenade-throwing capability.

Simon Phoenix serves as a recurring boss encountered at the conclusion of stages. A Sega CD edition features the same core levels and mechanics but integrates actual movie footage to provide narrative context between segments.
