Barbie Super Model

Review

Navigate scrolling levels, avoid obstacles, and complete fashion challenges to become a top model.

Barbie Super Model was released for the Sega Genesis in 1993 by Hi-Tech Expressions, which is also the earliest commercial release of the game on any platform.

About Barbie Super Model

Barbie Super Model is an arcade style game where the player guides Barbie through a series of fashion oriented challenges. The core activity involves navigating scrolling environments from left to right and back again, avoiding obstacles while collecting items for points and extra lives.

Success in each of the four themed levels, which include a city street and a beach, is not solely based on navigation. The game integrates several distinct fashion tasks. One requires assembling an outfit and coordinating its colors to match a target magazine cover. Another task involves memorizing and later executing a sequence of runway moves at specific markers.

During the return trip from right to left, a different set of aesthetic challenges is presented. After collecting a specific item, the player must accurately replicate a hairstyle, jewelry, and makeup colors from a second magazine cover reference. Points are awarded for each correctly matched element in both the dressing and makeup phases.

Failure occurs if Barbie collides with moving obstacles, depleting a limited number of chances. The gameplay loop of traversal, styling mini games, and memory based performance repeats across each level, creating a fair blend of action and pattern matching.
