About Zanac

Zanac A.I. is a vertically scrolling shooter where the player pilots the AFX-6502 Zanac fighter. This vessel, constructed by the 256 Riot Fleet, represents humanity's final effort to prevent total destruction by a hostile entity known as The System.

The setting involves an ancient alien device, The System, which was improperly accessed by humans, triggering its defensive weapons. After years of study, the remaining objective is to deactivate it directly. The journey to accomplish this spans twelve distinct planetary areas, featuring environments from industrial zones to oceans.

Gameplay is noted for its challenging and adaptive artificial intelligence. Enemy behavior and the intensity of attacks are dynamically influenced by factors like player skill, ship position, and even the location of a previous defeat. This results in variable shooting speeds for both regular foes and bosses.

Each area concludes with a confrontation against a large, screen-filling bunker base that serves as the area boss. These structures are equipped with gun turrets and a central core that must be destroyed. A time limit is imposed for these battles; exceeding it prevents progression and triggers a penalty of increased enemy assaults.
