Capture and train creatures, then trade with Blue version to complete your collection.

Pokémon Red Version was first released in Japan on February 27, 1996 for the Game Boy. The legacy year 1998 corresponds to the North American release, but the earliest worldwide commercial release on the Game Boy was 1996.

About Pokémon Red Version

Pokémon Red Version is an international adaptation of a Japanese title, Pocket Monsters Akai. Its technical foundation, including graphics, audio, and code, was taken from a separate Japanese release, Pocket Monsters Ao.

Certain creatures are only obtainable in this edition, requiring a trade with the companion Blue version to register every species in the Pokédex. This version also features some geographical adjustments when compared to its original Japanese counterpart.
