About Double Dragon II

Double Dragon II for the Game Boy is a side-scrolling beat'em up that repurposes the core gameplay and level design from a different Kunio-kun title, altering its presentation to fit the Double Dragon universe. The player controls Billy Lee, with Jimmy Lee available for a second player via link cable, as they fight to clear their names after being falsely accused of murder.

The combat system is simplified, restricting the player to punches and kicks without the use of weapons or a standard jump. A crouch maneuver, executed by pressing both buttons, serves as both an evasive action and the setup for a jumping uppercut. The journey progresses through three main stages, each containing multiple sub-stages, moving from city streets into subway environments and finally into a multi-story building.

Opponents include standard gang members and specific sub-bosses such as a boxer, a ninja, a sumo wrestler, and a masked chainsaw-wielding enemy. The narrative impetus involves evading the Scorpions gang while uncovering the truth behind the framing.
