Catch and train creatures while exploring the Johto region as a male or female trainer.

Pokémon Crystal Version was released for the Game Boy Color in Japan on December 14, 2000, and this is the earliest commercial release of the game on that platform. The original game also debuted on the same platform, so the original release year is also 2000.

About Pokémon Crystal Version

Pokémon Crystal Version is an enhanced release of the earlier Gold and Silver titles, following a pattern established by other upgraded entries in the series. The core adventure, including its narrative and fundamental mechanics, remains consistent with its predecessors.

Several revisions were implemented to distinguish this version. A notable addition is the option to select a female protagonist at the start. The legendary Pokémon Suicune is integrated more deeply into the story, appearing at multiple points and becoming more accessible for capture later on. Certain characters, such as Eusine, are introduced exclusively in this iteration.

Various technical and interface improvements are present. These include new animations for Pokémon during battle introductions and a visual indicator that displays the current location's name. Adjustments to where Pokémon can be found, along with other minor gameplay and interface details, contribute to the overall experience.
