About Montezuma's Return!

Montezuma's Return! for the Game Boy Color is an adaptation that builds upon the foundation of Montezuma's Revenge. The player controls an adventurer navigating a pyramid to collect treasures, facing a challenging environment where contact with enemies or a long fall results in immediate death.

Level navigation involves avoiding hazards since offensive capabilities are limited to occasional dagger pickups. The gameplay revolves around evasion using jumps and ladders while managing obstacles like locked doors requiring keys, moving conveyor belts, teleporters, and platforms that vanish. A time limit adds further pressure to each stage's objective of securing all treasures and finding the exit.

While it shares its core premise and some levels with the earlier title, this version introduces many new stages. A technical shift brings the camera view closer, resulting in scrolling levels rather than static single screen displays. Temporary power ups can alter gameplay, granting abilities such as invulnerability to enemies or a lethal touch.
