About Special Mission
Special Mission was one of those games you'd find in the later days of Flash, a straightforward action shooter that didn't try to reinvent the wheel. It had a clear, functional look, the kind of game you loaded up when you wanted something familiar and fast. The controls were simple to grasp, though you often had to navigate a menu in another language first, pressing the middle tab to see the keyboard layout before you could start.
You control a lone soldier moving from left to right across a battlefield. Your main job is to shoot everything that moves, using the J key to fire your primary weapon and L to throw grenades into groups of enemies. You jump with K and move with WASD, a setup that becomes second nature after a few tries. The objective is simply to survive each stage, clearing out enemy soldiers and vehicles as you advance. The pacing is brisk, with enemies appearing frequently enough to keep you alert, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving if you're not careful with your jumps and grenade throws. It feels like a concentrated burst of arcade action, a quick test of reflexes you could complete in a single sitting.
