About Zork III: The Dungeon Master

Zork III: The Dungeon Master is a text adventure where players issue typed commands to navigate described environments. The setting departs from earlier entries, beginning directly within a deep dungeon rather than an expansive outdoor landscape.

Players assume the role of an adventurer who awakens on a vast spiral staircase with only a lantern, following a dreamlike encounter with a mysterious voice. This entity informs the character that a single final test remains after having passed others. Progress in the game is challenging, often requiring multiple attempts and reloads to advance past obstacles.
