Review
Also known as
Squadron WC1 Wing Commander: Der 3D-Raumkampf-Simulator Wing Commander: The 3-D Space Combat Simulator Wingleader ウイングコマンダー 银河飞将

This space combat sim tests your piloting and tactics in the brutal Vega campaign against the Kilrathi Empire.

Wing Commander was first released for MS-DOS in 1990 by ORIGIN Systems, making it both the original release and the DOS version release year.

About Wing Commander

Wing Commander is a space combat simulator set during a long running war between the Confederation and the Kilrathi. The player assumes the role of a newly graduated officer assigned to the carrier Tiger's Claw at the start of the Vega campaign.

Gameplay alternates between managing affairs aboard the carrier and piloting a fighter in three dimensional combat. On the ship, characters can save progress, receive mission briefings, and gather information in social areas like the bar. The outcome of missions influences the campaign's direction, which can branch along winning or losing paths.

The combat sequences place the player in a cockpit view to directly control a spacecraft's maneuvers and weapons systems. Multiple Confederation fighter models are available, each with distinct handling and combat capabilities. Missions involve engaging various Kilrathi fighters, capital ships, and skilled enemy pilots, often with the assistance of a wingman whose survival is beneficial. After completing an assignment, the pilot must return to the carrier to dock before proceeding.
