About Whale’s Voyage

Whale's Voyage is a science fiction role-playing experience where the player's primary goal is to earn money to repair and upgrade a damaged starship. The narrative premise involves a space traveler and crew stranded in a remote solar system after purchasing the faulty vessel named Whale.

Progression is largely driven by completing quests for non-player characters and engaging in interstellar trade. A key activity involves purchasing goods on one planet to sell for profit on another, which funds further travel and ship improvements. The ship itself can be ambushed during menu-based travel, triggering separate top-down, turn-based space combat where action points govern the flow of battle.

Character creation involves defining four crew members by selecting parental species and an educational background, which determines one of six possible classes. These classes, such as Soldier, Doctor, or Psionian, grant access to specific skills like healing or computer use. Each character also possesses six core attributes that can be initially raised, affecting a mutation level.

Planetary exploration occurs from a first-person perspective within pseudo-3D maze-like environments representing populated areas on six distinct worlds. Turn-based combat with the player selecting attacks for each crew member occurs sporadically within these same environments. Initially, only one planet is accessible, with earned money required to buy fuel for travel to others in the local system.
