About Rise of the Triad: Dark War

Rise of the Triad: Dark War is a first-person shooter that builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, Wolfenstein 3D, with a more developed block-based engine. The player assumes the role of a HUNT operative whose mission to infiltrate an island fortress becomes a desperate fight for survival after an ambush.

Combat involves a range of firearms, from standard pistols and rifles with unlimited ammunition to more powerful, single-carry weapons like rocket launchers and unconventional options such as a baseball bat. Opposition comes from armed human foes with abilities like weapon theft and entrapment, alongside environmental hazards including automated turrets and crushing architecture. The level design incorporates verticality through floating platforms and jump pads.

A distinctive feature is the array of temporary power-ups that radically alter gameplay. These can grant invulnerability and new attacks, transform the player into an invincible animal, induce visual distortions, or modify physical properties like elasticity. Multiplayer modes extend beyond standard deathmatch to include objective-based variants where players collect items or hunt specific targets without weapons.
