About Reach for the Skies

Reach for the Skies simulates aerial combat from the Battle of Britain. The conflict is divided into four phases, and players can choose to command either the British Royal Air Force or the German Luftwaffe.

Gameplay involves two distinct roles: direct piloting of aircraft and strategic oversight as a Controller. The strategic layer involves daily planning of squadron deployments with the aim of conserving forces. Eight different aircraft are modeled, including the Spitfire, Hurricane, Ju88, and BF110, each featuring a unique cockpit and flight characteristics. For the German side, a key tactical consideration is escorting the vulnerable Ju88 bombers.

The simulation offers adjustable realism settings and includes a practice mode where planes are invulnerable. To manage pacing, time can be accelerated when no enemy aircraft are visible, making the overall experience fair and configurable to player preference.
