Jagged Alliance (CD)

Review
Also known as
Jagged Alliance DS Jagged Alliance: Kampf um Metavira 铁血联盟

This tactical RPG blends turn-based combat with strategic resource management to liberate Metavira and harvest its medicinal trees.

Jagged Alliance was originally released for DOS in 1994. The CD-ROM version, which is the exact version referenced, was released in 1995 for DOS.

About Jagged Alliance (CD)

The game is set in the fictional country of Metavira, where a conflict revolves around the control of Fallow trees, a resource for an experimental medicine. Players oversee a team of hired mercenaries with distinct personalities, specialties, and costs, who must secure territory from an antagonist named Santino.

Gameplay operates on two levels. A strategic layer involves managing captured sectors to increase income from the trees. A tactical, turn-based combat mode is entered when engaging enemies in contested areas, using an action point system to govern mercenary actions during encounters.

Management between missions includes hiring local guards to defend sectors and natives to process resources. Mercenaries require medical attention for wounds, which is provided by team doctors, and can undergo training to improve their skills while not deployed. The experience is challenging, complicated by scripted and random events that affect the environment and narrative.
