About Chex Quest

Chex Quest presents a scenario where the Intergalactic Federation of Cereals faces an infestation of mucous-like Flemoid aliens on the planet Bazoik. The player, controlling a square-shaped character, is tasked with clearing these creatures from various levels. The game is a 3D first-person shooter built on a modified version of the DOOM engine.

Combat involves using a bootspoon and a Zorcher weapon that employs Zorch energy, an interdimensional substance capable of banishing Flemoids. These tools can be upgraded to more powerful versions like the Super Bootspork. Protection comes from armor made of Chex kibble, which defends against the mucous projectiles fired by the aliens.

A notable design choice is the replacement of traditional violence with non-lethal mechanics. The game opens with a notice to parents affirming its non-violent nature, using gross sounds instead. The player character does not die but becomes immobilized when completely covered in mucous. Health is restored by consuming healthy items like fruit, vegetables, water, or a complete breakfast, which includes cereal, reinforcing a theme of nutrition.
