Action Soccer presents a simplified take on the sport, omitting complex rules such as offside and player fatigue. Its gameplay is easy to pick up, focusing on a quick pace rather than deep tactical management.

Each of the sixteen available teams is defined by six distinct player attributes, including speed and shot power. Matches can be viewed from either a two-dimensional overhead perspective or a three-dimensional isometric angle.

Several competition modes are offered, from single friendly matches to structured tournaments and a dedicated cup. Limited adjustments are possible, allowing for changes in weather conditions and a basic offensive or defensive stance.

A notable feature is the inclusion of humorous match commentary provided by Jonathan Pearce. The software also comes with an editor for further customization.
