Soul Blader Soul Blazer: Free the Freilians. Make Deathtoll Pay ソウルブレイダー

This action RPG frees souls to restore the world with fair combat and exploration.

Soul Blazer was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in Japan on January 31, 1992, and in North America in August 1992. This is the original platform and earliest commercial release.

About Soul Blazer

Soul Blazer is an action role playing game where the player directly controls a character in real time combat against enemies. The setting is the Friel empire, a land stripped of life after its king, Magridd, made a catastrophic bargain with a being named Deathtoll. The player's mission, given by a figure called the Master, is to reverse this devastation.

Progress is achieved by clearing Monster Lairs, which permanently removes enemies from an area. Stepping onto a cleared lair then restores a piece of the world, from flora and fauna to people and structures. These restored souls often provide assistance, such as granting access to new areas or offering sidequests. The player also gains experience from defeated foes, leading to increased strength through leveling up.

Special items are found during the adventure, enabling new actions like entering dreams or harming previously invulnerable monsters. This sometimes requires backtracking to earlier locations to free souls that were initially out of reach. While much of the journey proceeds in a linear fashion, revisiting areas can yield new tasks and rewards.

The overarching objective is to collect six Stones guarded by key figures, typically rulers who must be rescued from boss encounters. These stones grant passage to the World of Evil for a final confrontation with Deathtoll, aiming to save the empire's subjects from their fate.
