About Sküljagger: Revolt of the Westicans

Sküljagger: Revolt of the Westicans is a side scrolling platform game where players control Storm Jaxon, a sailor opposing the pirate Sküljagger's tyrannical rule over the island of Westica. The core objective involves navigating levels within a time limit to avoid losing a life, while evading or confronting enemies.

Gameplay centers on movement and combat, with Storm able to run, jump, and wield a stolen magic sword. This sword can destroy enemy projectiles, though direct contact with foes or their attacks is typically fatal. The levels contain various collectibles that alter these conditions. Red jewels provide both a protective shield against one hit and upgrade the sword to fire projectiles, while green jewels offer protection and, when 25 are gathered, grant an extra life. Blue jewels extend the level timer, and a mask offers temporary invulnerability.

These items and power ups are found either floating in the environment or concealed within destructible objects like chests and coconuts, which can themselves be picked up and thrown. A unique system involves collecting fruity bubblegum, with only one flavor stored at a time for manual activation. Each flavor confers a distinct ability: grape creates a protective, high bouncing bubble; cherry allows for controlled flight via inflation; watermelon transforms Storm into a screen clearing projectile; and orange enables pellet spitting to eliminate enemies. A dedicated menu option allows players to practice using these gum powers.

The game supports single player or a two player mode with alternating turns. The presence of time limits, instant death from most enemy contact, and the strategic management of temporary power ups suggests a challenging pace, where survival depends on quick navigation and judicious item use.
