NHL 97

Review

Experience polygonal players and new camera angles in this hockey simulation. Manage teams and compete in multiplayer matches.

NHL 97 was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996, the same year as its original release on other platforms such as the Sega Genesis and PlayStation.

About NHL 97

NHL 97 is a sports simulation from EA's long running series. Its presentation is enhanced by a virtual stadium system offering multiple camera perspectives, one of which is a top down view not present in the previous year's installment. The players on the ice are rendered as polygonal models with motion captured animations.

Beyond the visual upgrades, the title supports multiplayer for up to eight participants via network or a specific controller interface. It includes tools for creating and trading custom players. As with other EA sports titles of the era, licensed multimedia elements are present, such as a feature dedicated to viewing the detailed artwork on thirty different goalie masks.
