Zero Wing

Review
Also known as
ゼロウィング

This horizontal shooter challenges you to defeat the cyborg CATS in fast-paced arcade combat.

Zero Wing was originally released in arcades in 1989. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version was released in 1991, with the European release in 1991 and the North American release in 1992. The earliest worldwide commercial release on the Sega Genesis platform was in 1991 (Japan and Europe).

About Zero Wing

Zero Wing is a side scrolling shooter. The player operates a ZIG escape pod after the main vessel is destroyed by CATS, a cyborg antagonist with global conquest as its objective.

Its arsenal includes three distinct weapon types, which are color coded and can be powered up through collecting sequential upgrades. A defining mechanic involves a traction beam that can capture an enemy and then launch it to destroy other foes.

The European PAL release is noted for a specific English translation error. The phrase "All your base are belong to us" from this version later gained significant recognition online.
