The experience is divided between navigating towns and landscapes to advance the narrative and engaging in strategic battles. These encounters are presented from a tactical overview, shifting to animated close-ups for individual actions. Beyond scripted story fights, random battles provide opportunities for party growth.
Players can select from multiple difficulty levels at the start. The game also includes a configuration code system, which allows functions like taking direct control of enemy units.
