Primal Rage

Review

Control the post-apocalyptic world as prehistoric gods in this one-on-one fighting game with deadly finishing moves.

Primal Rage was originally released in arcades in 1994. The Sega Genesis version was released in 1995.

About Primal Rage

Primal Rage presents a one-on-one fighting experience where the combatants are prehistoric creatures, including dinosaurs and giant apes. Its visual presentation is built upon digitized stop-motion animation.

The setting is a world thrown into chaos following a catastrophic meteor impact, where seven ancient gods have awakened to vie for dominance. Matches conclude with the possibility of deadly finishing moves, a mechanic shared with other fighters in the genre.

From a side perspective, the gameplay involves two fighters battling for control of this post-apocalyptic landscape. The general structure and viewpoint are comparable to that of Mortal Kombat.
