A fighting game where you execute special moves in one-on-one duels to defeat Shao Kahn.

Mortal Kombat II was originally released in arcades in 1993. The Sega Genesis version was released in 1994 (North America on September 9, 1994, and Europe on September 1994).

About Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat II is a fighting game playable alone or with another person. Its narrative follows the first tournament, with Earthrealm warriors lured to a contest in Outworld that is actually a scheme by Emperor Shao Kahn to enable an invasion.

The challenging progression involves selecting a warrior and fighting through one-on-one matches, culminating in battles against powerful bosses like Shang Tsung, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn. Combat uses a side view and consists of best-of-three-round duels where basic attacks, blocks, jumps, and character-specific special moves are all utilized.

A notable expansion from the first game is the character roster, which includes returning combatants and new entrants such as Kitana, Jax, and Baraka. The game's signature finishing moves, Fatalities, are more numerous and elaborate here, with some tied to specific arena features. Later revisions added alternative hidden finishers.

Various modes support repeated play, with two-player competition being a central feature. While home console versions sometimes modified visual or violent content, the core fighting structure remained consistent across releases.
