Hokuto no Ken: Shinseikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu 北斗の拳 新世紀末救世主伝説

Control a martial artist fighting through side-scrolling stages to rescue a kidnapped ally.

Last Battle is the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Hokuto no Ken: Shinseikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu, released in Japan on July 1, 1989. The original arcade game was released in 1988.

About Last Battle

Last Battle is a side scrolling beat em up where players control a martial artist named Aarzak. His objective is to confront an antagonist named Duke by defeating his subordinates and three generals who have taken Aarzak's girlfriend.

The core gameplay involves standard punches and kicks, which can be combined with jumping and crouching. A special power meter fills gradually, and when full, grants a temporary boost enabling rapid attacks for the remainder of the stage. Progression through levels is generally fair, with most areas requiring the player to advance within a time limit, though some adopt a maze like structure where finding the exit is necessary.

Throughout the stages, Aarzak can encounter allies who provide enhancements to his attack, defense, or health. Boss confrontations typically conclude the majority of levels.

The game is an altered localization of a title originally based on the Fist of the North Star manga and anime. In the Japanese version, the protagonist is Kenshiro. For the international release, character names were changed and graphic violence was reduced, while the core visuals, gameplay, and environments were kept the same.
