About Heavy Unit

Heavy Unit is a side scrolling shooter set in the human colony Le Tau, which faces an alien assault. The player operates a starship tasked with eliminating hostile forces across six stages, each concluding with boss encounters.

Defeated foes can yield power ups that enhance the ship's capabilities. These include improvements to speed and firepower, protective shields, and additional lives. A notable item transforms the craft into a larger, more heavily armed robot configuration.

This robot form trades the standard vulcan gun for a laser and homing projectiles, offering greater offensive power. The trade off is a challenging increase in the craft's profile, making it more susceptible to collisions with both enemies and stage obstacles. Losing a life in this mode, or any other, reverts the ship to its basic state at the last checkpoint, forfeiting all accumulated upgrades.

While the stage design remains consistent, different versions of the game exhibit variations. These can include the positioning of enemies, audio presentation, and graphical details such as color depth and sprite size.
