Budokan: The Martial Spirit

Review

Master four martial arts disciplines, manage your Ki and stamina, and compete in the world championship tournament.

Budokan: The Martial Spirit was originally released in 1989 for MS-DOS and other computer platforms. The Sega Genesis version was released in 1990.

About Budokan: The Martial Spirit

Budokan: The Martial Spirit simulates combat across four distinct martial arts disciplines. These include armed forms like Kendo with a wooden sword, Nunchaku with chain weapons, and Bo with a staff, alongside unarmed Karate.

Gameplay requires careful management of two resources: Ki, or life-force, and stamina. Both must be maintained, as Ki is expended with every action attempted, regardless of whether it connects with an opponent. This makes strategic move selection challenging.

Players can hone their techniques through solo practice or spar against either computer-controlled instructors or another person. The ultimate objective is to qualify for and compete in the world championship tournament held at the Budokan venue.
