Zombie Nation

Review
Also known as
Abarenbou Tengu Darc Seed Samurai Zombie Nation 暴れん坊天狗

Control a flying samurai head to rescue hostages and destroy Darc Seed across four challenging stages.

Zombie Nation was released for the NES in 1990 in Japan (as Abarenbou Tengu) and North America. No earlier version of the game exists on any platform.

About Zombie Nation

Zombie Nation is a side scrolling shooter where players control a giant disembodied samurai head named Namakubi. The character's primary attacks consist of eye projectiles and bombs launched from his mouth, directed at enemies and environmental structures.

The narrative begins with an object crash in 1999, releasing a creature called Darc Seed who uses magnetic powers to turn Americans into zombies and seize control of weapons. This includes the legendary sword Shura, prompting Namakubi to travel to the United States for a confrontation.

Gameplay involves navigating through four distinct stages, with enemy attacks reducing health by varying degrees. Health restoration is tied to increasing the player's score. An additional mechanic allows the player to power up attacks by rescuing zombie hostages that fall from windows. The experience offers two difficulty settings.
