Snake's Revenge

Review
Also known as
Metal Gear II

Infiltrate a terrorist base using stealth to destroy mass-produced Metal Gear tanks.

Snake's Revenge is an NES-exclusive game released by Konami in North America in April 1990. It was not released on any other platform, so the original release year is also 1990.

About Snake's Revenge

Snake's Revenge continues the stealth based gameplay of its predecessor on the NES, placing the player back in the role of Solid Snake. The mission involves infiltrating a terrorist held facility to stop the production of new Metal Gear prototypes, aided by two new FOX-HOUND operatives.

Gameplay requires avoiding detection while navigating diverse environments, which include jungles, prisons, and a cargo ship. New obstacles such as searchlights, gyrocopter patrols, and suicide bombers make evasion more challenging. Progression relies on gathering items on-site and using a truth serum on captured officers to gain information, alongside rescuing hostages.

The experience mixes overhead perspective sections with side scrolling areas that introduce more direct action, though stealth remains a core principle throughout. The objective structure is familiar, but the variety of locations and enemy types expands the scope of the infiltration.
