Also known as
Joust: A Game of Combat, Action and Skill

Control a knight on a flying ostrich, jousting enemy riders from a higher position and destroying their eggs.

Joust was originally released in arcades in 1982. The NES version was released in North America in October 1988 by HAL Laboratory.

About Joust

Joust is a two player simultaneous arcade game where players control knights mounted on flying birds. The primary objective is to defeat enemy knights, who are also airborne, by striking them from a higher position with a lance.

Defeated enemies leave behind eggs that must be destroyed before they hatch, introducing a secondary objective that increases the game's pace. The hatched knights become progressively more challenging, represented by three distinct types: Bounder, Hunter, and Shadow Lord.

Environmental hazards add further complexity. Platforms can crumble, and lava trolls emerge to pull knights into the fire. A pterodactyl also appears as a particularly formidable obstacle. Success depends on managing these threats while maintaining altitude to gain the tactical advantage in jousting combat.
