Review
Also known as
Arcade Archives: Jackal Final Command: Akai Yousai Tokushu Butai Jackal Top Gunner 赤色要塞

This overhead shooter requires precise jeep control to rescue POWs through challenging enemy patterns.

Jackal was originally released in arcades in 1986. The NES version was released in North America in 1988, which is the earliest commercial release of this exact game version on the NES platform.

About Jackal

Jackal is a two player overhead action game where players control a jeep. The setting involves a rescue mission to free captured soldiers from enemy camps.

Players use a machine gun that fires upward and a grenade launcher that can be upgraded to a bazooka. The primary objective is to find prisoners, escort them to a helicopter extraction point, and then defeat a stage boss.

This NES release is a distinct remake of the arcade original, featuring six defined stages instead of one continuous area. Enemy and obstacle layouts were also altered for this version.
