About Desert Commander

Desert Commander is a turn based strategy title for the NES where two anonymous armies clash in a desert theater. Victory is determined by the destruction of the opponent's Headquarters unit, a central objective that concludes each engagement.

The core gameplay involves maneuvering selected units across a top down map, with movement limits influenced by terrain. Players manage logistical concerns like ammunition and fuel for their forces. Strategic depth is added by map features such as Towns for resupply, alongside Oases, Airfields, and Position icons that provide various benefits.

Before battle, commanders assemble their forces from a roster that includes four land vehicle types, infantry, two kinds of aircraft, and two cannon styles. This customization allows for different strategic approaches. Conflicts are resolved through animated sequences when units engage. The game offers five campaigns playable against the computer or a second player in a versus mode.
