Also known as
Xenon 2 Xenon II ゼノン2

A vertically scrolling shooter where you earn cash to upgrade your ship's weapons and abilities between stages.

Xenon 2: Megablast was originally released in 1989 for Amiga and Atari ST. The Game Boy version was released in 1992 by Mindscape.

About Xenon 2

Xenon 2: Megablast is a vertical shooter where a player controlled ship navigates through multiple stages. These stages conclude with a confrontation against a boss after waves of standard adversaries.

Destroying enemies provides currency, which is spent between levels at a shop called Colin's Bargain Basement. Here, permanent ship enhancements such as weapons, speed, and defensive capabilities can be bought. Additional power-ups are also available for collection directly within the levels themselves.

The game's visual setting shifts from organic environments in the initial portion to more mechanical designs later. Navigation can be challenging in certain maze-like areas that contain dead ends, and holding the down button allows the ship to reverse its scrolling direction.
